Digital tank storage operation - safe, environmentally friendly and human-centred
Motivation
The operation of tank storage facilities is a key component of energy supply and other industrial sectors. Nevertheless, there is a strong association with considerable safety and environmental risks. Due to their frequent proximity to water bodies and the handling of hazardous substances, malfunctions or accidents can have serious consequences for the environment as well as the employees. Moreover, many processes are still predominantly manual, which places a significant burden on employees and increases the likelihood of errors. These challenges are further intensified by demographic change as well as the shortage of skilled personnel. Therefore, the use of modern digitalization technologies offers great potential to improve safety, environmental protection, and efficiency in a sustainable manner.
Scope
The DigiTank project is bringing digitalisation to the tank storage industry and setting new standards for safety, efficiency and sustainability. With the help of a digital twin, AI-based analyses and mobile monitoring systems, environmental pollution is reduced, the working situation for employees is improved and operating processes are optimised.
