STRALI
Strategic Charging Infrastructure Planning for the Electrification of Urban Transportation

Motivation
In order to promote electromobility, the charging infrastructure needs to be expanded. Up to now, the distribution of charging points take place without consideration of the steering effect on traffic. In addition, traffic flows are currently not optimised through strategic planning, which would allow resources to be used more efficiently. The potential to influence mobility behaviour is therefore not tapped. In addition, the population, companies and urban and transport planning sometimes have conflicting needs that have not yet been jointly identified or included.
Scope
Cities and municipalities should be enabled to plan charging infrastructure in line with their needs and municipal transport policy objectives, based on multi-criteria data collection and analysis. In the future, suitable web-based applications will be used to make charging infrastructure planning available for the targeted, resource-efficient management of traffic flows. The project will implement this approach in the city of Essen as an example, enabling the results to be applied to other cities and municipalities in the future.
